Buffer is used to select a group of tax parcels that are within a specified distance from a selected tax parcel.
In a buffer operation, you must first use the Select Parcels tool to select a single tax parcel. This is known as the buffer feature. Then, you may use the buffer operation to 'buffer' the selected parcel for a specified distance in order to select other tax parcels that fall within or intersect the buffer. For example, the buffer operation can be used to find all the property owners who are affected by a requested zoning variance.
To select features using a buffer:
1) Select a tax parcel in the map window using the Select Parcels map tool.
2) Click on the Buffer Parcels button.
3) In the Buffer dialog window type in the size of the buffer in feet.
4) Click the Submit button to execute the buffer operation or Close to cancel and close the dialog window.
Note:
Selecting
a large buffer value (e.g., > 1,000 feet) or buffering more than 3-4
parcels may cause the buffer operation to work slowly. If more than
one feature is selected and a large buffer value is used, the operation
may fail.
5) The map window will update to show the buffer in yellow and the selected features within the buffer in cyan.
6) Review the selected records in the Buffer Results window.
7) To clear the buffer and selected features from the map window, click on the Clear Selection button.
